This is a translation project report of Chapter7(excerpt)of Conference Interpreting-A Complete Course. The book gives a bird-view of almost every respect of interpreting, from the basic introduction to interpreting, requirements of learning interpreting, methods of training consecutive and simultaneous interpreting, ways to improve language proficiency, coping tactics in reality to interpreting as a profession. Two highly experienced interpreters co-authored this book, one being Robin Setton, the other being Andrew C.Dawrant.Guided by the Skopos theory, this report illustrates that using the translating techniques such as splitting, addition, conversion can render a more concise and clear translation, especially when the original text abounds with complex sentences. This report is divided into 4 parts. The first part introduces the background, objectives and significance of the report and makes clear the structure of this report. In the second part, the guiding principleof this project, the Skopos theory is clarified, with the main content, stylistic and linguistic features of the original text analyzed as well. The third part demonstrates in examples how, under the guidance of Skopos theory, the three translating techniques were used to bring about a more concise and clear translation. The last part summarizes the whole translation project with gains and lessons from the project explained and insufficiencies put forward.
