In September 2019,Professor John Loughran,Executive Dean of School of Education in Monash University,Australia, was invited to conduct a week-long academic exchange at Henan University, during which three lectures were held.Professor John Loughran is not only a well-known professor in the field of international pedagogy, but also a reviewer of many famous journals in it.He has extensive experience in publishing and reviewing academic papers.Out of my own interest, the author participated in two of these lectures and provided a whispered simultaneous interpretation for an alumnus. The author transcribed the contents of two lectures and the whispered interpretation as the material of this translation report. The first lecture the author transcribed was “Getting Published”.Professor John Loughran compared the different ways of publishing papers, exemplified the difference and difficulty of various types of papers, and proposed a series of highly usable writing rules and publishing methods. The second lecture was “What Expert Teachers Do”.Professor John Loughran mainly analyzed six frameworks often used by expert teachers in teaching, which were quite enlightening. The author completed this interpretation practice under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory. The Interpretive Theory was first put forward by Seleskovitch and Lederer. This theory divides the process of interpretation into three stages: comprehension,de-verbalization,and reformulation. The interpreter should fully understand the content of the source language at first, then forget the structure of it,and only remember the content to be expressed. Finally, the interpreter should convey the content in another language.De-verbalization is the key stage, which requires the interpreter to acquire the core of the source language and deliver it to the target audience effectively. The practice report consists of four chapters. The first chapter introduces the content of this interpretation practice, including the source of interpretation task, practical significance, and the difficulties in the interpretation process. In the process of whispered interpretation, the author needs to keep interpreting in a low voice.Due to the professional character of academic lectures, the author's knowledge reserve, listening ability and resilience are highly required. The second chapter describes the interpretation process, which includes three parts: pre-interpretation preparation, interpretation process and post-interpretation evaluation. The third chapter analyzes the guiding significance of the Interpretive Theory to the practice from the three stages of comprehension,de-verbalization,and reformulation, and elaborates the merits and demerits of the interpretation. In the stage of comprehension, the author mainly discusses the influence of intralingual knowledge and extralingual knowledge on the effect of interpretation. In the stage of de-verbalization,the author mainly exemplifies the interpretation of polysemy and the problems of mistranslation. In the stage of reformulation, the author mainly elaborates the use of three translation methods: amplification, omission, and conversion. The fourth chapter reviews the problems in the practice and summarizes the corresponding solutions.Through this interpretation practice, the author not only expanded the knowledge of pedagogy, deepened the understanding of the interpretation style of academic lectures, but also used different methods to successfully complete the task of whispered interpretation. In the process of summarizing and reviewing, the author demonstrated the effective application of the Interpretive Theory in the interpretation, which provides a reference for the same type of interpretation practice.
