Every year, the Chinese Premier’s press conference during the Two Sessions is followed by the media both at home and abroad. When taking questions, premier Li Keqiang often metaphorically explains to the audience policies and measures adopted by the Chinese government. Therefore,as an interpreter,he or she has to grasp the intrinsic meaning contained in a metaphor and idiomatically convey its information to the audience. The research materials for the thesis are the transcripts of premier Li Keqiang’s press conferences during the Two Sessions from 2020 to 2022.The operational guidance of this research is the Metaphor Identification Process(MIP)developed by the Pragglejaz team.During the research, all metaphor cases are analyzed textually with the aim of summarizing the interpreting methods employed by the interpreter.Under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory, the writer sums up six methods for metaphor interpreting, namely, direct interpreting, direct interpreting with logic processing, discarding the original metaphor image, adding the hidden tenor, replacing the tenor with its vehicle and deletion. The writer digs deeper into these methods and explores influences on metaphor interpreting exerted by the characteristics of the metaphor itself and the characteristics intrinsic to interpreting. The writer hopes that this research will contribute to both student interpreters’ metaphor interpreting practice and the research on metaphor in the domain of interpreting as well.
