Objective: Little information is available on comparison of the prevalence of hypertension and related risk factors in pastoral, rural and urban regions. The purpose was to assess the difference in the prevalence of hypertension(HT)and associated risk factors in multi-ethnic pastoral, rural and urban Xinjiang China.Method: We conducted a HT screening project covered a third of adult population during 2014-2016 in Emin County, northern Xinjing,China.HT was defined as systolic BP ?140mmHg,and/or diastolic BP ?90mmHg and/or taking anti-HT drugs. We compared the prevalence and related factors among different regions(agricultural,stock-raising or urban).Result: Totally 47040 adults completed screening process,48.5% were women. The overall prevalence of HT were 26.5%,25.4% in rural,27.2% in pastoral and 28.2% in urban adults. In the pastoral hypertension patients, the constituent ratio of grade 1 hypertension is the highest, and the proportion of its pastoral patients after antihypertensive treatment is also the lowest(P<0.05).Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that: age,overweight,obesity,non-agricultural and non-husbandry occupation, low level of education, smoking and drinking, ethnicity are risk factors for hypertension.women as HT risk factors in rural residents. The main HT risk factor for urban residents was smoking, and drinking in the pastoral.Compared with WC,BMI is a greater HT risk.Kazakhs have a higher prevalence of HT than Han Chinese.Compared with the rural population, the prevalence of hypertension in urban areas was 1.74 times of that in rural areas(OR = 1.74,95% CI: 1.55-1.96).Conclusion: 1.The prevalence of HT is high in Emin Xinjiang;2.The prevalence of hypertension in urban adults is higher than that of pastoral adults and rural adults;3.HT risk factors: smoking mainly in urban adults and alcohol consumption in pastoral adults.
