Objective:To describe the condition of self-management behavior,Personality and Medication compliance in diabetic patients, and find out the relationship between personality traits of diabetic patients and diabetes patients' self management behavior, medication compliance, and ten year cardiovascular risk scoreMethods:The convenience sampling method is used in this study.Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus were recruited in the endocrinology department of one hospital.Four questionnaires were used in the research including the demographic part filled by the researcher,Summary of Diabetes Self Care Activities;SDSCA,Big Five Inventory,Morisky medication compliance questionnaire(MMAS-8).The researchers calculated the patient's cardiovascular score based on a ten-year cardiovascular risk score. Results:The total score of self management is 45.67±14.36,the average item scores subscales were 4.77± 1.61 for diet,4.43±2.16 for exercise,2.16± 1.83 for glucose monitoring,3.91±2.36 for foot care,5.56±2.07 for medication; The results of the Big Five Inventory showed:33.91 ±6.82 for Neuroticism,40.21 ±5.46 for Extraversion,35.94 ± 4.33for Openness,40.42 ±6.23 for Agreeableness,42.13 ± 5.78 for Conscientiousness;Multiple linear regression indicated that:Extraversion,Openness, diabetes duration and gender were influencing factors which could Partly explain the 28.6%variance of the total self-management;Extraversion,Openness,Agreeableness and Conscientiousness of personality traits were positively related with medication adherence. In the multiple stepwise regression model,Openness and Conscientiousness are the protective factors for the compliance of drug use;Extoversion and Agreeableness of personality traits were negatively correlated with the score of the 10 year ICVD score. In the multivariate stepwise regression model,Agreeableness was the influencing factor of the 10 year ICVD score which explained 4.2%.Openness and HbAlc were negatively related(r=-0.190),the higher openness dimension scores, the lower HbAlc value. In the multiple stepwise regression models,it was found that the openness of personality traits was the protective factor for HbAlc control.Conclusion:1?The current condition of self management in diabetic patients was not ideal and the diverse dimensions had different levels,in which medication was the best, and glucose monitoring was the worst.2.The average score of the Conscientiousness in diabetic patients was the highest followed by Agreeableness, then Extraversion,Openness and Neuroticism.3.Extraversion,Openness,diabetes duration and gender were influencing factors of the total self-management.4.Openness and Conscientiousness of personality traits are independent and protective factors of medication adherence.5.Extroversion and Agreeableness are associated with cardiovascular risk, and Agreeableness is the independent factor of the ICVD score.6.Openness had a negative relationship with HbAlc.Openness is an independent and protective factor of HbA1c.
