Objective To investigate the correlation between serum Omentin-1 and osteoporosis(OP)in patients with type 2 diabetes(T2DM).Methods 30 T2 DM patients with osteoporosis were enrolled as T2DM+OP group, and 30 T2 DM patients without osteoporosis as T2 DM group, healthy subjects were included in the control group.Enzyme-linked immuno sorbent assay(ELISA)was used to determine levels of the serum Omentin-1,osteocalcin(OCN),RANKL,OPG and tartrate resistant acid phosphatase-5b(TRAP-5b).The FBG,HbA1 C,FINS were also measured. The bone mineral density(BMD)was measured by the dual energy X-ray absorptiometry(DXA)for the lumber spine(L1-L4).Results(1)The serum Omentin-1 levels in T2 DM with OP group [(31.90±2.95)ug/L ] and T2 DM group [(37.85±4.52)ug/L] were significantly lower than those in control group[(39.91±4.24)ug/L];And the serum Omentin-1 levels decrease significantly in T2DM+OP group when compared with those in T2 DM group(P<0.05).(2)The Pearson's correlation analysis demonstrates that the serum Omentin-1 levels are negatively correlated with FPG,HbA1 c,FINS,HOMA-IR,RANKL and RANKL/OPG ratio(P<0.01),but positively correlated with OPG and OCN(P<0.01).(3)Logistic Regression indicates that Omentin-1 is an protective factor for DOP,while HOMA-IR and TRAP-5b are risk factors for DOP.Conclusions(1)Serum Omentin-1 is one of the important substances affecting bone metabolism in diabetic patients.(2)The effect of serum Omentin-1 on type 2 diabetes mellitus complicated by osteoporosis may be exerted by adjusting RANKL/OPG/RANK signal pathway.(3)Serum Omentin-1 and TRAP-5b are protective and risk factors for DOP respectively. An enhanced monitoring of these factors enables medical workers to know bone resorption status of the patients.
