The senior managements of the organization are very concerned about the problem that how to select the employees.Many enterprises often select the employees with knowledge and skills,but ignore the motivation and characteristics.They believe these qualities can be acquired through learning and training.However,if they choose the employees who have the motivation and characteristics matched with the enterprise,then teach them knowledge and skills,it will be more effective.A competency model can avoid the bad influence of hiring mistake,it can reduce the training expenses,make the employees play an important role in work and create more value for the enterprise.The selection based on the competency model can help enterprise find the employees with high level of person-job fit,and make the enterprise to form a good selection and evaluation mechanism.The competency model can be used at various aspects of human resource management.In the world,the competency model play a good role in these four aspects: selecting,training and development,evaluating,succession planning.The most effective is selecting,it will be more meaningful to study on it.Research on the nurse staff selection based on the competency model is very urgent for Y hospital,because of the high separation rate for nurse staff.The competency model can reduce employee turnover,because the selected employees will achieve higher performance in the future,high performance employees will have higher satisfaction,the employees with high satisfaction will not quit easily.In this paper,firstly we found the problems on the nurse staff selection in Y hospital,then we introduce the competency model and many research methods,for example,documentary analysis,questionnaire method,behavioral event interview,comprehensive analysis method and so on.Then we extract sixteen competency words:professional ethics,self-confidence,empathy,service awareness,patience,learning ability,communication and coordination skills,discipline,responsibility,technical skills,work initiative,frustration tolerant ability,unity,professional dedication spirit,achievement orientation,self-control.According to the pyramid theory,we separate these competency words into three parts: quality and knowledge skills,active ability and personality potential,then we build the competency model.At last,we discuss the nurse staff selection in Y hospital's based on the competency model.
