Role Deviation And Reconstruction For Medical Social Workers

With the continuous development of the social economy,we have been in an era where the expanded and in-depth reform agenda is proposed and some confusions are also emerging.When enjoying the abundant material wealth,living in a rapid and convenient life,people are also increasingly demanding for medical services,spiritual needs-for sense of fulfillment and happiness.As a rising profession,medical social work has become the highlight.However,since the development of medical social work in China is not mature currently and it is still in a preliminary stage,the post functions are not clear,the role deviation for medical service still exists,the medical social workers are confronting with a variety of challenges in this regard.Moreover,it is extremely important for the social workers to clarify their role orientation.Firstly,the literature review method is adopted to summarize the role of medical social workers which is studied by the scholars in China.It is characterized by extensive collection of roles-including the communicators coordinating between the doctors and patients,the consultants providing information to the patients,the counselors soothing patients and the contactors seeking the social resources etc.This paper makes analysis of the manifestations and reasons for the generation of role deviation among medical social workers based on the research method of qualitative interview,supported by cognitive behavior theory and psychological crisis intervention theory,with the role deviation and reconstruction for medical social workers as the main research content and the service project for Leukemia children between 6-12 years old implemented in R hospital as case study.Therefore,the paper puts forward the model for reconstructing the roles of medical social workers in specific service areas.According to “Eight Stages of Life” theory put forward by Erickson,7-12 years old are the best time for children to learn skills and cultivate the qualities of hardworking and confidence.Moreover,it is also vital to guide the behaviors of roles in the future.The Leukemia children in this stage are frightened and restless with some emotional antipathy due to sudden illness,they also feel psychologically inferiority due to interruption in learning and life,their families are in huge economic burden due to medical expenses which are extremely high.Therefore,in such circumstance,the medical social workers should answer questions and eliminate the confusion of the patients and their families and meet the demands of these families in life,psychology and material by carrying out some activities of role services in which the base theory is combined with the cases.However,in the practical process of specific role services,the quality of medical social workers varies from person to person,their professional level and ability are different and the individual demands in the interview are also different if analyzing from the perspective of individuals;the professional levels of medical social workers being introduced are different from the perspective of social medical structures,there are individuals who are lack of professional skills,at the same time,internal positions of the hospital are also vague;from the perspective of social policies,the policy support and institutional supplement for medical social work system are inadequate when it comes to top-level system design concept in China,therefore,it is impossible for the medical social workers to fulfill their obligations according to the theory completely and there will always be some role deviation which further impacts on the service effectiveness.In the stage of growth,children may undertake some unknown risks,such as leukemia,autism,being orphans,suffering from family violence,etc.Children in different groups have different demands,so the medical social workers can not generally rely on theories to play the roles,but they should play different roles accordingly.Finally,the research in the paper aims at improving the medical social work system and proposing the implementable reconstruction of roles for leukemia children and exploring a systematic and professional model for role services by referring to factors of medical social workers,families of patients,social medical institutions and social policies.
