Application Research Of OSCE In The Evaluation Of Undergraduate Nursing Talents' Clinical Ability In TCM Universities And Colleges

ObjectiveBy defining the composition of TCM colleges undergraduate nursing students' clinical ability, we tried to construct scientific competence forming system of clinical nursing ability in TCM colleges; based on clinical competence, we designed and organized practical OSCE(Objective Structure Clinical Examination) which conforms with the characteristics of nursing specialty in TCM colleges. This provides objective tools and schemes for assessment in nursing education in TCM colleges. And it also provides an objective basis for the reform of nursing education.MethodsUsing Delphi Method, we defined the composition of TCM colleges undergraduate nursing students' clinical ability through two rounds of expert consultation; using the successful OSCE application experience in medical field both in China and abroad, combining with the characteristics of TCM universities and colleges nursing specialty, we constructed the evaluation model based on OSCE and ability constitution system, then practiced and studied it. We assessed the quality of the assessment based on test results and questionnaire statistical analysis, analysis of reliability and validity of this assessment, the difficulty and discrimination, etc.ResultsTCM universities and colleges undergraduate nursing students' clinical competence contains four level 1 indicators, eighteen level 2 indicators; the OSCE test has 6 test stations, the achievement of students in every station normally distributed, difficulty is moderate, degree of differentiation is good, the students, teachers and the SP(Standardized Patients) were satisfied with the self-reported results, the results have good reliability and validity.ConclusionThe ability constitution system for TCM universities and colleges nursing talents' clinical ability is quantified, standardized and scientific, it can be used to evaluate the students' clinical ability comprehensively; the OSCE evaluation effectively revealed the ability weakness of TCM universities and colleges nursing talents, this provides scientific basis for the reform of nursing teaching in TCM universities and colleges.
