ObjectTo investigate current situation about coping style of parents who have a preterm neonates hospitalized in NICU, including the illness uncertainty, resilience, social supporting. We also aimed to reveal the influencing factors of coping style. This may help to enhance the coping ability of parents for preterm neonates. MethodsWe chose 300 parents random who has a preterm baby hospitalize in NICU of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from June 2015 to November 2015. General survey was carried out with self-programmed demographic data and disease treatment Questionnaire. Conner-Davidson Resilience Scale(CD-RISC), Social Support Rating Scale(SSRS), Parents' Perception of Uncertainty Scale(PPUS) and Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire(SCSQ) were utilized in the further investigation to determine the coping styles of these parents. Statistical descriptive analysis was used to analyze the general information and the coping styles, including scores of each dimension of resilience, uncertainty and social support. Variance analysis, t test analysis were used to analyze the influence of demographic factors on the parents' coping style. The correlation analysis was explored to determine the influence of psychological resilience, illness uncertainty and social support on coping style. The main factor affecting the coping style of preterm neonates were determined by multivariate regression analyses. Results1.Resilience scores of parents of preterm infants is 61.28±14.695 points, which were in the middle level mostly. In each dimension of resilience scores, the highest scores is self-improvement, entries are 2.66±0.62 points; Lowest scores is optimism, entries are 2.21±0.73 points.2.The overall level of uncertainty in parents of preterm infants scores is 88.82±9.716 points, lower than the domestic control group(P <0.01). Entry scores in four dimensions, the highest scores is ambiguity, which is 3.77±0.48 points. Lack of information is lowest, which is 3.43±0.92 points.3.In social support research, the parents of preterm infants earned 43.12±5.29 points, which is higher than the control group(P <0.01). the highest scoring entry focused on the objective support dimension, which is 1.62±1.25 points. The lowest score entry is use of support, which is 1.35±0.78 points.4.Positive response in parents of preterm infants is better than the control group(P <0.01). Negative response is also better than the control group(P <0.01). Fathers earned mores scores than mothers(P <0.05). The parents who were older, retaining higher-income, having health insurance and don't have underlying diseases take higher scores. Workers and institutional employees take more active coping style than farmers and unemployed people. The higher the birth weight of preterm infant is, the more positive coping ways the parents take(P <0.05).5.Pearson correlation analysis was performed to investigate the correlation betw een positive response and negative response of the parents and psychological resilie nce, social support, and illness uncertainty of the parents: positive coping is positively correlated with three dimensions of resilience, objective support dimension of social support, the subjective support dimension of social support; but negatively correlated with the complexity dimensions of illness uncertainty, lack of information dimension of illness uncertainty(P < 0.05). Negative coping is negatively correlated with support utilization of social support, but positively correlated with illness uncertainty the unclear dimension, complexity dimensions and lack of information dimension of illness uncertainty(P<0.05). Multivariate regression analyses which take coping style as the dependent variable, the dimensions of resilience, uncertainty, and the social support as the independent variable reveals that positive dimension of psychological resilience have the greatest influence on the positive coping style in the main influencing factors of positive coping style, and subjective support and objective support of social support are followed. Among the influencing factors of negative coping, illness uncertainty is the most influential, and the using degrees of support of social support is secondly. Conclusion1.Psychological resilience and social support of parents who have a preterm baby hospitalized in NICU are at higher level, illness uncertainty is at lower level. Parents of preterm infants in NICU take more positive coping styles. The factors of sociology of population that can affect the coping styles of preterm parents including parent-child relationship, age, family income, occupation, medical insurance and birth weight of preterm neonates.2.In the main influencing factors of positive coping style, the greatest affecting factor is positive dimension of psychological resilience, followed by subjective support and objective support of social support(positively correlated). In the main influencing factors of negative coping, the main affecting factor is illness uncertainty(positively correlated), followed by using degrees of support of social support(negatively correlated).3.Positive dimension of psychological resilience, three dimensions of social support, and illness uncertainty can predict the coping style of parents of premature infants.
