ObjectivesThe purpose of this study was to find out the level and status of illness uncertainty,coping style, and social support of patients with chronic disease, and find to explicit theinfluence factors of patients with illness uncertainty, as well as the correlation betweenillness uncertainty and coping style,social support.MethodsThis study conveniently selected380hopitalized patients with chronic disease withquestionnaire in March2013to August in the First Affiliated Hospital of Bengbu MedicalCollege and Fuyang City People’s Hospital. The questionnaire consists of the generaldemographic and related information from the proposed questionnaire, the Misheluncertainty in illness scale (MUIS), the medieal coping modes questionnaire (MCMQ)and social support rating scale (SSRS). Application SPSS17.0statistical software for dataanalysis, statistical methods used include the Institute descriptive analysis, t test oranalysis of variance, Pearson correlation analysis and multiple linear regression analysis.Results(1) The score of uncertainty in illness in patients with chronic disease was (91.87士11.008), in the medium level, which is the highest average score unpredictable dimension,followed by ambiguous dimension.(2) Different residence, occupation, education level, family income, personality,duration and severity of disease group perceived uncertainty score differences werestatistically significant (P<0.05), whereas age, sex, marital status, ethnicity, religion,payment group score has not been found to have statistically significant differences(P>0.05). (3) Regression analysis showed that: education level, family income, duration, typeand severity of personality disorders conscious of these five variables are the main factorsthat affect the level of illness uncertainty of patients with joint explained18.4%variation.(4) The score of resignation was(2.12±0.62) higher than the national norm, and thedifference was statistically significant (P<0.01).(5)The score of illness uncertainty was negatively correlated with confrontation(P<0.05), and it was positively correlated with resignation (P<0.01); The ambiguity waspositively correlated with confrontation (P<0.05); The lack of information was positivelycorrelated with resignation and avoidance (P<0.05), and unpredictability was positivelycorrelated with resignation (P<0.01).(6) The total score of social support in patients (37.68±6.30) was higher than theaverage social support in general population, and the difference was statisticallysignificant (P<0.01), uncertainty in illness and social support were negatively correlated(r<-0.155, P <0.01).Conclusions(1) Uncertainty in illness in patients with chronic diseases are prevalent, andthe majority of patients are in the medium level.(2) Education, family income per month, Course of disease, personality, gradeof illness severity are the main influencing factors of uncertainty in illness in patients with chronic diseases.(3) The level of uncertainty in illness and coping style is closely related, Leading them to use more positive coping styles can effectively reduce patients’ uncertainty in illness.(4) Compared with the general population, patients with chronic diseases havehigher social support, and the higher social support, the lower degree of uncertainty inillness, and vice versa.
