With the modernization process and the development of population aging, the phenomenon of empty nesters becomes more and more prominent. The number of empty nesters will further expand in future, which has increased high degree of concern in the society. According to<Survey Report on Elderly People within Empty Nest Families in Liaoning Rural Areas>, in2010, the rural elderly empty nest families accounted for 48.9% of the total number of households in Liaoning rural areas. In the empty-nest families, the elderly people who are ill often do not receive timely medical treatment. There are differences and particularity between empty nesters and those who have children companionship, which show in the psychological,spiritual or physical aspects. Therefore, there is an urgent need for a family self-monitoring medical equipment specially designed for empty nesters in the market.With the increase of people's health awareness, constant improvement of people's living standards, and growing awareness of self-care; people believe disease prevention is better than cure. More and more people desire simple healthcare measurement at home, and home medical equipment has become a new sunrise industry. This paper adopts literature review,questionnaires, and field research method to compare the empty-nest households and non-empty-nest families and look at the differences in the aspects of daily living conditions,mental status, support conditions, health care methods and physiological characteristics.This paper analyzes the existing domestic equipment for heart rate, blood pressure, blood glucose test mode, the wrist, blood pressure meter and blood glucose meter use function, color selection, design sense of volume and materials used for the next man-machine analysis and design to expand laying the groundwork.By analyzing the summary, the use of human factors engineering principles, for the wrist,blood pressure meter and the meter man-machine re-design, human dimensions of the device parametric analysis, human-machine interface character size analysis, from the intelligence,unity, fault tolerance, encouragement, security and other aspects of the empty nest elderly elaborate design principles with medical devices, obtain basic monitoring equipment for home use empty nest, guiding significance to the design of other household measuring devices. Given the needs of empty nesters and design direction of home medical equipment, and strive for more intelligent future for empty nesters medical product design, human, emotional, enhancing safety.
