Background In recent years,a large number of studies show that postoperative recurrence rate of PPH was significantly higher than that of the traditional operation in severe hemorrhoids patients, which may be related to inadequate resection of rectal tissue with PPH.In 2004,foreign scholars have reported STARR can received good results for treatment of rectal lordosis.Later,STARR was further applied to the treatment of severe hemorrhoids and found that it was better than PPH,the recurrence rate was lower. Then domestic and foreign scholars pay more attention to the technology quickly, and carried out positive researchs on STARR in the treatment of severe hemorrhoids. To date, there are few reports at home and abroad on STARR for severe mixed hemorrhoids complicated with rectal mucosa prolapse patients. Objective To investigate the effect of STARR in the treatment of severe mixed hemorrhoids complicated with rectal relaxation.Method 85 cases of severe mixed hemorrhoids complicated with rectal relaxation patients in the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinxiang Medical University and the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from September 2013 to September 2014 were included in this study.According to the treatment method, the patients were divided into a STARR group(n=32)and a PPH group(n=53).We compared the safety,effect,short-term outcoms and long-term prognosis in two groups. Results Two groups of patients in external hemorrhoids resection, width of mucosal resection, anastomotic stenosis, recurrence after 1and a half years of operation, operation time, operation cost, pain score and the use of analgesic drugs on the right postoperative day had statistical significance(P<0.05).Anal straining feeling, anastomotic dehiscence index, hospital days, acute urinary retention, acute bleeding after operation, new anal incontinence, pain score and the use of analgesic drugs on the 3th days after operation among the two groups had no statistical significance(P>0.05).The average operation cost is(11066.11 + 611.06)yuan in the STARR group, while the average operation cost is(7968.45 + 708.77)yuan in the PPH group,it was statistically significant(t=30.848,P=0.000).Conclusion STARR is more effective for the treatment of severe mixed hemorrhoids complicated with rectal relaxation than PPH.
