As early as in the last century 80's, in the urban renewal practice of the western countries to deal with inner-city recession, culture has been used for "lure the capital". With the era of economic globalization, the competition between the countries focuses on the "soft power", and culture has become a core element of competition between cities and regions. The concept of "cultural capital" was proposed by sociologist Bourdieu. And then it has been introduced to economics, urban planning and other areas. In 2014, the new urbanization strategy of our country is gradually turning from extensive growth to intensive development, from the incremental construction to the stock management. The urban development path of "land management" is unsustainable. "Cultural management" which is combined of cultural capital and the demand of modern life, economic and social development will become a new topic.City is people. People are the main body of the city, and the community is the basic unit of the daily life of people. With the development of city, the community will inevitably be material aged, functional and structural declined, so the community regeneration has become an important part of the inventory management. Community in the long-term development process has accumulated rich cultural assets, but the meaning and value of cultural capital have not been fully recognized and valued. In the "asset vacated" community renewal, cultural capital is destroyed. This generation model not only destroys the community assets and social networks, but also leads to the loss of the cultural characteristics of community and the vitality of city. It is not conducive to the continuation of community emotion and urban context because of the ignorance of the significance of cultural factors and the respect the regional features and daily life of residents. This paper is an introduction of cultural capital to the field of community regeneration. Guided by the theory of asset-based community development, taking cultural capital as the "catalyst" of community renewal, based on the physical space planning method, integrated knowledge of architecture, sociology, cultural studies, economics and other disciplines, it explores the local path of community regeneration. The research focuses on two questions: 1) how to understand the connotation and value of cultural capital? 2) How to use the cultural asset in the community regeneration on the scale of space, industry and society?Yuzhong District is the only area with an urbanization rate of one hundred percent in Chongqing City. It is also facing the recession after rapid economic growth. Incremental planning is drawing to a close within the first ring road, and inventory planning has been an important issue of urban regeneration. This paper takes Yuzhong District as the object of empirical study, integrated of qualitative and quantitative analysis methods to identify Yuzhong District cultural assets. It also researches Yuzhong District community renewal in recent years to sum up the representative community update strategies: the activation of historical and cultural heritage, the creation of cultural space, the increase of community cultural facilities, the introduction of community cultural industry, the development of community tourism and the construction of community image. At the same time, it also attempts to explore the values of the community and the role of urban planners in the stock planning era.The thesis is divided into four parts. First part clarifies the research background, including the question origin, the research goal and the significance, research methods and research framework; the second part is the construction of the theoretical frame through analysis of theory research and case study; the third part is Yuzhong District empirical research, introducing the renewal strategy and practice course of selected communities; the fourth part is summary and extension, discussing community development and transition of urban planning in the stock planning era.
