The Research On Detailed Design Of Dwelling Unit In The Apartment For The Elderly

As our country enters into the aging society, the population of the elderly people has increased rapidly. And this may also affect the traditional family norms of the old-aged supporting patterns. The emergence of the apartment for the elderly becomes an important supplement and enhancement to the traditional family support pattern. The apartment for the elderly can provide independent living units which are designed of the consideration of their physiological and psychological need, as well as the medical care during later years. However, in the process of ageing, people's behavior will be constantly changed. So the design of the apartment space require more variability higher living standard. Besides many project practice, it still lacks for the fine design for the modification of existing buildings.This paper focused on analyzing the typical characteristics of self-helping aged people, device-helping aged people and under nursing aged people, and concluded their special living space requirement. This paper attempts to propose the method transform the limited space, and presents the possible layout plan for a single standard room which contain the ability to transform the space according to different occasions. The method of designing dwelling unit will be applied to the renovation project of an existing hotel by changing its function into an apartment for the elderly.
