Design Strategy On Indoor And Outdoor Activity Space Of Contemporary Kindergarten

Benefit from the reform and openness, China introduced advanced ideas and concepts into mainland, as well as international architectural theory and practice. After more than 20 years’accumulation, Chinese architecture coincided with the economy’s explosive growth in the early twenty-first century and seized the opportunities for further development. Be diffident from the rapid development of real estate, high-rise office buildings and commercial complex, educational buildings have not been paid attention. The architectural design of kindergarten also has a long way to go.On the basis of the combination of the theory and cases on architecture, child psychology and pedagogy, this paper uses research methods such as literature, case analysis, field research, project practice and so on, and focus on architecture design strategy in the indoor and outdoor activity space, which relied on the practical project of the Kindergarten in Zhengzhou Airport Eight Resettlement Zone.This paper starts with the kindergarten’s overall environment, and elucidates the equal importance of indoor and outdoor activity space on the basis of basic design elements and volume combination. After the analysis of the cases and summary of general design methods, this study elaborates the design strategy of indoor activity space from the activity room in class living unit, public classroom and circulation space, and outdoor activity space from the public playgrounds, courtyard space and roof terrance. At the end of each section, this paper shows the design of author’s practical project of the Kindergarten in Zhengzhou Airport Eight Resettlement Zone, which is more close to reality, in response to the design methods of the previously mentioned six major activity spaces in the kindergarten.
