The rapid developments of the society unfortunately lead to the poor quality of massive buildings in China.The value and meaning are not properly considered when residential was established. A residential area should not only serve as a daily need, but also provide comfort as a media for the communication between people and people, even people and the environment they dwell in. However, a great majority of old residential areas in China are fading away and can not satisfy habitants'needs on both material and spiritual level.My research focus on improving residential space environment, redesign the space of old residency area, coming up with more reasonable designing methods from different aspects, in order to improve the space quality of residency and boost city's energy significantly.Firstly, the research starts with the old residency buildings built in the 90's in Dalian, uncover the existing issues and causes on their surfaces, and put forward questions. Secondly, this study rounds up a number of domestic and international successful samples on Building Surface, carry out a questionnaire survey to pick out the features of those highly selected samples, and elaborate the connections between various elements and quality improvements. Thirdly, conclusions of the redesign according to the redesign strategy are made, with expected vision effect and making comments. Finally, this research offers redesign strategies and possible solutions on the 90's residency buildings in Dalian,with analysis and trial-design on concrete case studies.This research studies the existing residential buildings, especially the old 1990s ones in Dalian, and through this perspective redesign study are carried out in order to develop more reasonable and environment-friendly residential buildings and avoid blindness in redesigning.
