Since the reform and opening up, the export trade of Guangdong, Zhejiang and Fujian provinces has developed very quickly. Now, all the three provinces are already large export provinces of China. The three provinces’total export volume accounts for a large proportion of Chinese export volume. But compared with Guangdong and Zhejiang provinces, Fujian province is lagging very much in export. This paper first compares the present situation of export trade of the three provinces, including export volume, export body, trade mode, export products and the balance of the trade. Then use the porter’s competitive advantage of nation theory (diamond model) to analyze the four basic factors and two auxiliary factors of the three provinces, comparing the features of their developments, researching the advantages of Guangdong and Zhejiang Provinces’success in export and pointing out why Fujian province is lagging behind them in export. At last, based on the successful experience of export trade development of Guangdong and Zhejiang provinces, this paper puts forward suggestions to improve the export competitiveness of Fujian province.Based on an integrated theory of trade and existing researches, this paper will use a variety of research methods, such as table analysis, comparative analysis, empirical analysis, diamond mode analysis and case study. This paper compares the three provinces’ export volume, export body, trade mode, export products and the balance of export and finds they all have their own characters. Guangdong is the biggest export provinces of China with foreign-invested enterprises as its main export body, processing trade as its main trade mode, and its export products are with high tech. Zhejiang, on the other hand, its main export bodies are private enterprises, and its main export mode is general trade. And its export products are with low tech. Fujian falls somewhere in the middle. Foreign-invested enterprises and civil enterprises both account for a large proportion. So do general trade and progressing trade. But neither of them develops very well. Secondly, Zhejiang has the highest degree of balance in export trade of the three provinces, Guangdong and Fujian is out of balance in this aspect. At the same time, this paper uses diamond mode to analysis Guangdong, Zhejiang and Fujian provinces’ factors of production, demand conditions, related and supporting industries, enterprises, government and opportunities. Analysis shows that Fujian is backward in most aspects.Guangdong and Zhejiang Provinces have achieved a great success in export trade, there must be some inevitable reasons. Fujian province should make full use of Guangdong and Zhejiang Provinces’ successful experience. Fujian should increase the added value of the export products, combine attracting foreign investment enterprises (especially Taiwan funded enterprises) and introducing high-end technology, give full play to the initiative of the inland city, improve the infrastructure that supporting export trade, change the government’s function, increasing Fujian province’s export competitiveness.
