Needs Analysis And Proposal Investigation On Parts Logistics Of Auto Clients In UTi

As a medium-sized foreign third party logistics company, UTi needs to find its foothold on logistics outsourcing market, to make good business development and customer service, and to solidify its foundation for the development in China market. After analyzing internal and external environment, UTi decided to develop automotive industry as its most important industry vertical. Therefore, it becomes the key question to UTi as how to meet the increasing automotive customer needs on auto parts logistics based on its current structure and operation mode. The major study object of this thesis is of the way UTi better serve the automotive customers’needs on parts logistics. This thesis studied the detail customer needs of automotive parts logistics and proposed suitable solutions to the needs.During the practical study of the automotive logistics outsourcing, the logistics theory related with time, cost and quality and the client management theory provide the theoretical base for this thesis. In the analysis of automotive parts logistics, the customers are divided as OEM plant and parts suppliers and are given the separate and detail investigation. The auto OEM plants’parts logistics requirements on integration of logistics outsourcing, lean inbound logistics warehouse, and inbound transportation are analyzed. Also, the auto parts suppliers’ logistics needs on logistics integration, order management on supply chain, customized control tower set-up are analyzed.According to the detail auto client needs assessment, together with the current operation status of UTi, this thesis proposed solutions to match the auto client needs. In terms of the inbound transportation of OEM assembly plant, the thesis proposed the management of trucker fleet, to classify different types of suppliers and to manage them differently and to utilize the inbound transportation system. In terms of the inbound logistics warehouse, the thesis proposed consignment lean warehouse and its continuous improvement. In terms of the international freight forwarding of auto parts, the thesis proposed the integration of consolidation center, to set-up the control tower on the basis of current UTi operation structure, to link the clients on the auto supply chain and set optimized order management system.This thesis analyzed the auto client needs on parts logistics. Based on the analysis, this thesis solved the problem of how UTi should do to fulfill the client need of parts logistics.This thesis is of theoretical meaning to UTi for its auto vertical development. It also has referral meaning to the similar companies of UTi and the auto logistics industry regarding inbound logistics and international forwarding solutions to some extent. However, due to time and the working content and position limitation of the author, the thesis was not able to dig into one field of the auto logistics and do more thoroughly investigation and study. Due to the length of the thesis, it didn’t include the execution, implementation and application of the proposed service plans and solutions. All the above questions need to be continuously thinking, studying, analyzing and solving.
