Because solid-state hard drive(SSD) capacity continue to increase with decliningprices, the storage market has constantly tilted to the SSD, HDD hard drive industrygolden period of development has been in the past. X Company is a leading globalmanufacturer of hard disk heads, but also it is the only magnetic head manufacturecompany without its own hard disk brand. X company faces serious impact, especially inthe situation of labor and other cost increases reverse the process that HDD manufacturersrequire constant prices to decline. So making head manufacturing cost reduction, whileimproving manufacturing yield (also means better quality) has become the inevitablechoice. Six Sigma management techniques has prominent effect on improving the qualityso it enjoys wide reputation in the world.This paper introduces the basic concepts of the history of the development of qualitymanagement and Six Sigma management, detailed step introduction to the core content ofDMAIC. Six Sigma management techniques is proved to be the low-cost, high efficientway. And then compare the advantages and disadvantages of the current ISO9000series ofstandards, to discuss the implementation of the necessity and feasibility of Six Sigmamanagement.Beginning in the third chapter to market mainstream K products for applied researchexamples of Six Sigma management techniques, Six Sigma analysis of the specificimplementation process were performed, some quick win actions were done to eliminateprocess big variation from abnormality. By cause and effect matrix, FMEA and other toolsto identify key process risk factor, and through physical materials analysis, regressionanalysis and experimental design tool to optimize the process parameters, the last use ofShewhart control chart control, final products quality are improved greatly.From the actual operation situation, yield was increased from97.25%to98.02%, theuse of Six Sigma management techniques to improve manufacturing quality head isremarkable, and the company has brought some economic benefits. The application studyconfirmed the feasibility and effectiveness, but also for future quality improvementproject provides valuable experience and references.practical application for future qualityimprovement projects.
