Antenna as a receiving and transmitting terminal plays a very important role in radio frequency system. Due to the rapid development of mobile Internet communication, people put forward higher request to the antenna in the wireless communication system.microstrip antenna has the advantages of small size, light weight, simple structure, easy integration, low cost, etc., which can better meet the needs of miniaturization, multi frequency, broadband and intelligent of the antenna in mobile system. At the same time, microstrip antenna is used in navigation, radar and other fields. In the practical application,it is a good choice. In this paper, we first introduce the development history of microstrip antenna, then the paper briefly expounds the developing situation of present stage and also introduces the multi frequency microstrip antenna research background and abroad the latest progress and application.Secondly, the paper introduces the basic theory of antenna, work principle and the antenna in the RF system which has played an important role, and it expounds the methods for the analysis of microstrip antenna: the oretical analysis method and numerical analysis method. Based on this, several methods and techniques for the realization of small and multi frequency microstrip antennas are introduced. Finally, this paper designs a kind of rectangular slot patch antenna using the professional design antenna software HFSS. The antenna model is a double C model, and the resonant frequency of the antenna is predicted by the theory. The antenna can be implemented in WLAN and WIMAX band. The main parameters of the antenna are S11,directivity, impedance matching and so on. Be able to meet the needs of mobile Internet communications applications.
