With the rapid development of wireless communications, the area covered by wireless communication network is growing rapidly. In modern communication, antenna design is facing new challenges. The demand for varieties of data services increase and the past communication equipments and models have been unable to meet the multi-service, high-speed and high-quality requirements. Evolutionary Algorithm has become a new direction and hot spot for antenna design.This paper studied Mind Evolutionary Algorithm (MEA) combining with High Frequency Simulation Software (HFSS) and performed the optimization of microstrip antenna. The following microstrip antennas were optimized: dual-band U-slot loaded PIFA antenna, dual-band CPW-fed T-type antenna, dual-band CPW-fed E-type antenna, CPW-fed ultra-wideband slot antenna and fractal Pre_Minkowski microstrip antenna.The main content of this paper can be divided into three parts: first, MEA and microstrip antenna theory were introduced; second, MEA combined with HFSS was studied and applied in the microstrip antenna design; third, fractal antenna theory and three commonly fractal structures were studied, then Pre_Minkowski fractal microstrip antenna was simulated. The details are as follows:(1) MEA combined with HFSS was presented based on the study of simple MEA. The designing of antenna is transformed to the optimization process of MEA. The fitness function returned the designing demand and indicated the optimization direction of MEA. Based on this algorithm, dual-band U-slot loaded PIFA antenna, dual-band CPW-fed T-type antenna, dual-band CPW-fed E-type antenna, CPW-fed ultra-wideband slot antenna were designed.(2) The fractal antenna theory and its structure were introduced. Pre_Minkowski fractal microstrip antenna was optimized with the optimization algorithm proposed in this paper and proved the effectiveness of the algorithm in antenna design.
