With the rapid increasing of modern social environmental pollution,the human beings are paying great attention to healthy problems. How to use the latest technology to monitor the home environmental condition has become an important branch of Smart Home, and also one of the hot spots of recent research. Currently,the research about the environmental condition monitor mainly focuses on the design of the sensor network. However, the data communication terminal lacks unified standards and data communication methods are diverse. So it is hard for various products to be compatible with each other, and the products lack extendibility.Under the revelation of XMPP protocol in the field of instant messaging, this paper designs and implements a Smart Home Environment monitoring system by using the combination of sensing technology, XMPP communication technology and Zig Bee network technology. Environmental data collected by sensor nodes uploads to XMPP server database in the end through the Zig Bee wireless network and the router.The client can communicate with the XMPP server to read and display the home environmental information. The device in the system can also be opened and closed by infrared signal.The main research contents of this paper are shown in the following points:(1) This paper proposes overall architecture and topology of Environment Monitoring System, analyses the structure and function of each component of the system in detail, gives definite requirements of software and hardware design, and summarizes the characteristics of the Environment Monitoring System.(2) This paper designs and implements environmental monitoring network based on ZigBee network protocol. There are three kinds of nodes in the sensing layer of monitoring network, including sensor node, relay node and coordinator node. This paper describes the three nodes in the aspects of hardware design and software design.(3) The paper researches the server and client based on the XMPP protocol, and the system chooses the open source Openfire as the server. In order to develop and expand easily, the system client, which is based on the Android platform and theASmack class library, is designed and developed based on XMPP protocol. The client has the functions of registration, login, data acquisition and device control for users.(4) The system establishes a Smart Home Environmental Comfort Model based on the theoretical basis of the PMV model of human thermal response, and calculates comfort index through the temperatureparameter and humidityparameter. It can provide evaluation indicators for monitoring the home environment condition and has certain practical significance.This paper uses XMPP protocol as the standard communication protocol between client and server during the process of design and implementation of Smart Home Environment Monitoring System, which provides a new way of thinking for the communication of Smart Home System. Smart Home Environmental Comfort Model based on the theoretical basis of the PMV model provides an important reference for the evaluation of home environmental condition.
