Great dreams call for great spirits. We have to develop and advance the national spirit whose core is patriotism and the spirit of the time whose core is reform and innovation.This essay focuses on the build of Chinese spirit in People’s Daily editorials since the reform and opening up. This essay is inspred by Propaganda Technique in World War ?. People’s Daily has published 1973 editorials and 3.5 million words, containing themes about politics economy culture military and dilpomacy. Though themes are totally different, the spirits which make economy and society better are the same and the way building Chinese spirit is the same.The arrangement of the chapters is as follow: the second third and forth chapter s are the main parts of this essay. In the second chapter, the production of Chinese sp irit is analyzed by the theory of production of spirit and the traditions of Chinese hist ory and culture,thus working out the connotation of Chinese spirit and the necessity of advancing Chinese spirit.The third chapter is the most important one. On the base of the analysis of editorials from 1978 to 2014, the third chapter focuses on the base of the build of the Chinese spirit,then working out five ways of the concrete ways of building: development inspires spirit, evaluation inspires identification, disasters ins pire strength,models inspire progress and collective memory inspires progress. The f orth chapter focuses on the build and problems of Chinese spirit in People’s Daily.To tally speaking, the principal line of this essay is finding out Chinese spirit from edito rials of People’s Daily.
