Reservoir immigration is a huge project that has wide social influence. In order to improve the standard and efficiency of reservoir resettlement management, modern information technologies are employed in aiding the decision making process. This paper focuses on the design and application of reservoir resettlement geographic information system(GIS). Based on the reviews of reservoir immigration management research and technologies such as ASPNET and ARCSDE, the various function modules of the reservior immigration GIS system in this paper are designed and developed, taking the pratical demands of immigration settlement into account,using the structure analysis method and the object-oriented design method.The system was developed to strictly meet the business requirements of reservoir immigration projects. Based on analysis of the current business situation and from the perspective of software engineering and information system support, the technical requirements of reservoir immigration information system were explored and the software was designed and implemented accordingly. Given that the reservoir GIS system involves a large number of spatial data which needs to be displayed,searched and edited on the client side of GIS map, the ARCSDE data development engine was usedfor the realization of the spatial database management. The rest of the data table were managed through the SQL Server. Furthermore, C# was used to develop the client system platform. The reservoir immigration GIS system aims to become an efficient instrument for effectively organizing and managing various data of reservoir resettlement, providing efficient query and analysis function, supporting resettlement planning strategy, and raising the accuracy and scientificity of the reservoir resettlement management.
