High speed smart image system is an embedded system with the capability of high speed image acquisition, intelligent image processing and high speed data transmission. With the development of electronic information industry, the intelligent image acquisition system is becoming more and more miniaturized, intelligent, network and high-speed. It increasingly becomes a focal study on making a more intelligent, low-cost, and multi-functional image equipment, which can be applied to production and living.This dissertation combines the technology of embedded image processing on FPGAs and the super-speed data transmission by USB3.0. A high-speed intelligent image system for some specific applications is designed. It has a better performance with low cost and low power consumption. This dissertation consists of the design of a high-speed transmission interface and intelligent real-time processing on FPGA. In the aspect of high-speed performance, we design a USB3.0 image transmission interface based on the EZ-USB FX3 USB3.0 development kit, which is developed by Cypress Company and designed for 1080 P video stream transmission with the protocol of UVC. In the other aspect, the real-time face detection on FPGA is realized based on the mature skin color detection theory. This subject includes the following three parts: firstly, validating the feasibility of face detection algorithm based on skin color theory on the platform of MATLAB; Secondly, the designs of image IP cores to simulate 1080 p image on FPGA and the USB3.0 interface for transmission of the image are completed. Those works include the design of Ping-Pong buffer structure to reduce the transmission latency. Finally, we implement the color detecting algorithm on FPGA which get the real-time image from ov7670 camera, and face detection algorithm based on skin color detection which include the design of multiple IP cores, such as CMOS image acquisition module, color space conversion module, morphological filtering module, face detection module, data transmission controller module.At last, the experimental results show that the design of the high-speed image transmission interface by USB3.0 and the real-time image processing on FPGA is quite efficient. This dissertation includes the embedded image processing development on FPGA and the design of USB3.0 high speed video transfer interface, which lays a foundation for the design of high frame smart camera and facilitates the subsequent development of intelligent image system.
