Digital publishing is a new development direction for traditional publishing business. The development of digital publishing will be reconstructing press’ s dominance, and make publishing houses’ advantages of brand and content to remain leading position on the new platform. In terms of the development of digital publishing, it is needed not only to store and manage large capacity and multi-type data contents properly, but also to display the contents to end users through a variety of channels flexibly. And further, let users find contents conveniently and understand the contents quickly.Social networks play an important role in human’s life in both personal and business activities. Through social networks people can communicate with each other freely. In the Internet age, social platform is established based on Internet application services by a group of people sharing similar interests. Currently, while social networks become popular, however the vertical social networking platform for professionals is still not easy to see and remained to be explored. Based on Web 2.0 technology, and taking the relationships between academic workers and ordinary users as the background, this dissertation presents the design and implementation of a project, which combines the research and development of social networks for scholars with a knowledgebase system for the purposes of digital publishing and knowledge service. The main innovative works and contributions are as follows:1) Analyzing and Modeling the academic social networking relationships for Maritime industry, and designing and implementing a maritime social networking platform for the support of digital publishing in the industry.2) Designing and implementing a software system which included the storage, management, and display of the large capacity and multi-type structured data by using XML, PHP technology, and integrated with the maritime social network platform.The Project will be promoting the development of the Marine knowledge service, and help the Ocean Press to take a leading role in the current digital publishing industry transformation in China.
