Desktop 3D printers are widely used in fields of education, art, and machinery and so on for its high material using rate and fast modeling speed. However, the existing desktop 3D printers have not been used for family purpose for their common molding, and safety problem. Therefore, based on the emotional design theory, this paper aims at the design and development of the desktop 3D printer’ whole structural modeling with modular design method.Firstly, this paper analyzes the market demand and functional requirements of desktop 3D printers. From the perspectives of color, material and processing technic, this paper proposes key design points for the 3D printers’ modeling, by comparing and analyzing the motor unit structure, it attempts to optimize the inner frame structure of 3D printer. Also, it develops the overall design scheme after researching the man-machineinteractivesystem of operation and display.Secondly, based on the emotionalized design theory, this paper analyzes the impact factors of the modeling design of 3D printers, collect the samples and semanteme of desktop 3D printers in the market. After screening the image semanteme, the paper designs the product sketch and effect picture of the proposed desktop 3D printers.Thirdly, this paper conducts a comprehensive analysis of the fault of the inner structure of existing 3D printers and proposes the corresponding solutions to optimize the faulty inner structure design. For the low assembling efficiency of existing aluminum-profile structure, this paper proposes a more efficient and compact assembling scheme of mental plate frame structure. Moreover, it also proposes designing a novel wind device to direct the wind to make sure that the extrusive molten material fiber can be rapidly cooled.Finally, the paper conducts an experiment to test the reasonability of the proposed design scheme of the inner frame structure of desktop 3D printer. It analyzes and evaluates the overall design scheme to nail the final whole design plan of the 3D printer.The modeling design of desktop 3D printer purposed in this paper is of novelty and technical sense. It provides customers with better user experience. The optimized design of inner frame and structure can make the 3D printer structure more compact, which better solves the problem of low assembling and increases productivity.
