The Jehol Diary was written by Pak Chi-won in Korea’s Yi Dynasty. In 1780, (45 years of Qing Emperor Qianlong,4 years of Emperor Zhengzong in Korea’s Yi Dynasty) Pak Chi-won accompanied the royal envoys in on their tributary visit to the Chinese Emperor Qianlong, who was celebrating his seventieth birthday. The Jehol Diary is Pak’s diary-style travel works which reveals everything he sees and experiences during the journey.He describes history, textual research, social customs, mountains and rivers, people, and gives his statement and argument cited numerous Chinese classics. It can be said that The Jehol Diary is a YanXing Record works with abundant connotation and multiple significance.Present study on The Jehol Diary by academic circles often focus on its history, ethnology, culture communication value, but is still inadequate in perspective to start from philology in research itself.This paper embarks on the perspective of philology, combining with other empirical methods, focusing on its text, to explore and research on all varieties of texts.Firstly, the paper introduces life and works of Pak Chi-won and discusses the completing time of The Jehol Diary. Completing time has been argued for a long time, but a unanimous conclusion cannot be reached.Secondly, in terms of version, based on the reviews of the foreign and domestic books, this paper sorts the version system. Aim at some high quality version, on the basis of detailed introduction and analysis, this paper illustrates and corrects some problems to discuss.Thirdly, through close reading of text, the paper checks The Jehol Diary cited book numbers, name, and classifies the quote classics, determines reliable bibliography and index. On this basis, the paper examines and corrects quotations and cited classics, specifically analyses the obvious difference with the guide book of quotations, proves it as much as possible. This part is the core part. In addition, the paper takes Chinese literature as the primary citation and guide books involved.Finally, This paper states Pak Chi-won, the author’s Chinese culture background. He is a master of practical study in Korea. He accepted systemic Chinese culture training when he was a teenager. His students also produced profound influence on Korean literature. Taking The Jehol Diary as the center, this part examines Pak’s culture characteristics, tendency and analyses his own exposition.
