As worldwide sporting events, Olympic Games attracts extensive attention all the time. Especially, mainstream media in various countries take it as an important event for showing national image and comprehensive national strength and sports development level. Much attention have been attracted on sportsmen and the host countries. Various state system and newspaper reporting guideline and culture lead to different focus and contents on sports reporting. As mainstream media in PRC and UK, People’s Daily and the Times have extensive influence worldwide. Both reporting style is serious. According to their influence and authority, the two newspapers have ability to represent authoritative media in China and the West.Using quantitative analysis and textual analysis, this article comparatively study on Olympic Games reports made by People’s Daily and the Times from 2004 to 2012.Longitudinal analysis has been made on reporting frequency, form and layout of the two papers. Variation in reporting angle also has been used. Furthermore, lateral contrast the one on another about last three Olympics makes us find more constructive way to report the Olympics preferably. Consequentially, more party newspapers show its social responsibility and professional ethnics in their papers.
