Since the past sixty years, the integrated circuit technology has been developing by leaps and bounds. The key techniques of IC like process geometries, operating frequency and circuit scale are constantly being innovative and constantly challenging the limits of human cognition. Now, the minimum process geometry is 10 nm. The operating frequency has exceeded GHz. The integrated circuits which integrated billions of transistors have been produced. However, with the increase of integration density, the power consumption is increasing too. The high heat generated by high power consumption greatly affects the stability of the circuit. Therefore, the research and application of low power technology have become a hot topic in today’s integrated circuit design. The market for low power integrated circuits demand is also growing. In much low-power technology, asynchronous circuit structure is favored because of its inherent characteristics of low power consumption and high robustness. Now the process geometries is smaller and smaller, the integrated circuit is higher and higher, compared with the asynchronous sequential circuit, to reduce the power consumption of the circuit becomes more and more obvious. Because the vast majority of integrated circuit has been used in synchronous sequential circuit, synchronous circuit design has a complete set of EDA design tools and design process from the front-end to back-end. And although asynchronous sequential circuits started very early, the CAD software and the corresponding design strategy are in extreme shortage. This paper presents a new asynchronous circuit design method based on AMS. In order to verify the feasibility of the proposed method, a 32 bit asynchronous multiplier booth has been designed. FFT as the most commonly used data processing method, special FFT processor is widely used in medical, communications, aviation and other industries. This paper has designed an asynchronous fast Fourier transform processor in 0.13μm CMOS process with the asynchronous circuit design method based on AMS-designer. The asynchronous FFT achieved 8% reduction in power consumption at an additional 4.5% of the area.
