With the rapid development of microelectronics technology,the integration of integrated circuit chips is increasing,and the problem of high power consumption of synchronous clock circuit becomes more and more serious.Asynchronous circuit has the advantage of low power consumption compared with synchronous circuit because of using event driven mechanism.However,due to the immature design method and lack of commercial EDA software support,the development and promotion of asynchronous circuits in the field of low-power chips are seriously affected.The feasible way is to convert the existing synchronous clock circuit design into asynchronous circuit,and can use commercial EDA software for design and implementation.This paper first proposes a clock replacement method,which can easily convert the synchronous design into BBD asynchronous design by using asynchronous control unit through the analysis of circuit structure,and realize the RTL level asynchronous circuit design based on synchronous circuit.Then,the method of using commercial EDA tool to design and realize the front end of asynchronous circuit is studied.By constraining the asynchronous path,the problem that asynchronous circuit can not use EDA tool to analyze static time sequence is solved.This paper applies the above design method to open source synchronous MCU.Firstly,we use the same asynchronous conversion method based on clock replacement to get the behavior level code,then we can synthesize the front end and realize it by using commercial EDA tools,and get the GDS file of the layout.Finally,ASIC Verification Platform is built to verify the function correctness of asynchronous MCU,and compare with the power consumption of synchronous MCU.The experimental results show that asynchronous MCU functions normally,and the total power consumption is reduced by 14.52% compared with synchronous MCU.
