Nowadays, with the development of technology and economy, cloud computing is widely used to provide services on the internet. Over the past few years, the rapid increase in cloud-based services added the complexity of cloud resources behind these services. Accurate operation and management of cloud resources require efficient monitoring. Cloud resource monitoring has become the key to maintain the stability of the cloud platform.As the cloud computing used more and more in business applications, under the support of community and the major IT company, OpenStack becomes the most popular open source cloud platform. OpenStack can quickly deploy the virtual environment in which a number of virtual servers can be established so that users can quickly deploy applications in the virtual machine. OpenStack provides Ceilometer to collect data.Currently the research on cloud resource monitoring in OpenStack is still poor and the monitoring project is in its hatcheries. The main purpose of this paper is to design and implement a cloud resource monitoring system based on OpenStack.Firstly, this thesis introduces the development of cloud computing and analyzes the importance of cloud resource monitoring. After that, this thesis introduces something about OpenStack and its architecture and analyzes Nagios, ZABBIX, Zenoss the three open source monitoring tools especially the development of cloud resource monitoring in cloud platform. To analysis the cloud resource monitoring technology and Ceilometer architecture, this thesis takes research on the process of data collection,data processing and data retrieval and finally proposes a solution of cloud resource monitoring. After researching on time series databases, especially for RRDtool,OpenTSDB, Influxdb the three kinds of time series database.
