Recently, the development of the information collection and management system for the grazing sheep has been mature, but the information products for stocking sheep are still lack. Therefore, the paper takes into account features of stocking sheep, and studies how to efficiently achieve the information collection and management for stocking sheep as follows.Firstly, to implement information collection and management for stocking sheep, the hand-held terminal based on WinCE and RFID tags are utilized to develop the system. The hand-held terminal incorporates RF module which is able to recognize RFID tags based on ISO 11784, and further provides GUI for operators to collect and manage stocking sheep based on RFID tags.Secondly, due to the insufficient coverage of wireless networks in the meadow where stocking sheep are herding, the system can be operated in two manners, namely the online mode and offline mode. Specifically, the sheep breeding information is collected during the offline mode, and the corresponding information is synchronized with the database in the server side during the online mode. However, since it is possible to have concurrent data synchronized during the online mode, the semaphore mechanism in Java is used to address this issue.Finally, the system is realized and tested in real environments and the testing results show that the system achieves the effective management of breeding information, and reduces labor costs.
