In recent years, with the rapid development of communication technology, communication towers have been quickly set up throughout the country as the main carriers of communication base stations. These towers are in long-term outdoor natural environment, repeatedly suffer from wind and rain erosion, even attacked by harsh natural disasters such as earthquake, typhoon, landslide and so on, all these factors can easily lead towers to severe vibration, even body tilt or collapse. Especially in railway transportation industry, these towers are almost just ten meters away from the railway track, in this case tower collapse will lead to immeasurable loss. So monitoring these towers’working status is a necessary method to guarantee the communication network and prevent major accidents. At present, the commonly used monitoring mode is manual inspection. This kind of monitoring mode has a long monitoring period, poor detection precision, plain monitoring data, great workload and high error rate, besides, with the number of towers getting bigger and bigger, and the distribution getting more and more wide, this way of monitoring can not meet the need of modern tower monitoring any more.In this paper, a software design for status monitoring system of communication towers was proposed, which realized data acquisition server, database server, application server and mobile terminal monitoring software. This software design was based on network technology, server technology, database technology and the fast-developing mobile terminal application technology. By accessing the database server, data acquisition server could store data uploaded by data acquisition devices, including the tower body static inclination, the vibration amplitude and frequency of tower top, overhead wind speed and direction, the tower top’s temperature, inspection status and intrusion of the tower bottom. And it could update the configuration parameters and the data acquisition system of the data acquisition equipment. Database server was the data center of the entire monitoring system. With cross-platform database data sharing technique, it provided data acquisition server and data application server with database access services simultaneously. And data application server provided mobile terminal monitoring software with tower status monitoring data, and achieved users’authentication, rights management and logging records by accessing the database server. Mobile terminal monitoring software was the user entrance of the tower status monitoring system. Users using it could login the monitoring system, set up server, view towers’location, browse alarm list, query basic tower information, alarm information, monitoring information, inspection information, and handle alarms. Mobile terminal monitoring software made it easy to realize online monitoring of towers’working status.Strict functional test and stress test showed that the proposed software design for status monitoring system of communication towers was able to realize online monitoring of communication towers’working status when working with data acquisition equipment. It could solve a lot of difficult tower status monitoring problems, and could be applied to practical.
