With modern industrial scale expanding and complexity increasing, the requirements for the reliability and safety of the critical equipment becoming higher, so the remote online status monitoring system has been paid more and more attention. Because the current sensor’s output signal and the communication protocol haven’t got a common standard, the traditional monitoring terminal needs to customize its hardware and software, according to the monitored object and the selected sensors, so its scalability, versatility is not enough. To solve the above problem, this paper designed a universal remote online status monitoring terminal. The terminal, on the hardware side, provides a variety of standard sensor interface to fit a variety of commonly used sensors, provides Ethernet and GPRS network communication to satisfy the different requirements for network communication on the field; on the software side, provides a configuration file in order to customize the sensor communication, acquisition control and data processing functions. Therefore, once the sensor used is replaced, the terminal just need to modify the configuration file, instead of re-design the hardware and software, thus flexibility is enhanced, the difficulty of development and the costs of maintenance are reduced. The test result of the general remote online status monitoring terminal shows, that under the experimental status, the monitoring terminal’s data accuracy is 100%, the data upload time is controlled in less than Is. The monitoring terminal is used to set up a remote online status monitoring aiming at the communication tower, and every function works well and reliable, satisfying the requirements, as well as improving the generality of the terminal.
