Because of four novels, Bureaucrats, Strange two decades, Travels and Flower, Li Boyuan, Wu Jianren, Liu E and Zeng Pu were known as The Four Great Novelists of Late Qing Dynasty. Their literary works had a significant impact whether at the time or in the later, and there were close contact between their road of literature and press activities. The study is based on the theoretical basis of Chinese journalism history, study Li Boyuan’s, Wu Jianren’s, Liu E’s and Zeng Pu’s press activities using literature analysis, to comb their press activities, supplement the lack of relevant research, enrich tabloid research and Late Qing Dynasty literati newspaper research, and clarity the close relationship between their literary achievements and between the press activities.The structure of this study is Total-Points-Total. The first part introduces the research origin, significance, status, points, ideas and methods. The second, third and fourth sections respectively comb Li Boyuan’s, Wu Jianren’s, Liu E’s and Zeng Pu’s press activities in accordance with logical thinking,What-Why-How. The fifth part summarized and analyzed closely relationship between their literary achievements and activities of the press, as well as shortcomings of this study.The second part combs Li Boyuan’s activities of the press. He compiled Guide News, founded and presided over the Game News and the World Bustling News, and edited the Illustrated Novel. The third part studies Wu Jianren’s press activities. He co-founded the Leisure News, edited the Mingling News, the Fable News, the Monthly Novel, founded and presided over the Odd Daily News, and edited the Hankou Daily and the Chinese version of the Chu News. The fourth section comb Liu E’s and Zeng Pu’s activities of the press. Zeng Pu co-edited the Women’s World, founded the Novels Society and the Novel Forest, and founded the True Goodness Bookstore and the True Goodness.The study combs Li Boyuan’s, Wu Jianren’s, Liu E’s and Zeng Pu’s press activities comprehensively, complements the academic deficiencies on their press activities research, corrects some historical mistakes and recognize errors of the existing research, clearer the close relationship between their literary achievements and press activities, and enrich tabloid research and Late Qing Dynasty literati press research to a certain degree.
