As a journalist,he was active in the press of Shanghai. He was the editors in chief of several newspapers,such as "Zhi Nan Daily ", "You Xi Daily", "Shi Jie Fan Hua Daily" and literary journal " The Novel with Xiu Xiang ","You Xi Daily" had create the first literary tabloid in China,which was influential at the time of the Shanghai tabloid community newspaper. He was also known as the "Originator of tabloid ".but due to it was not the orthodox under the situation of political press rule all the land, and the tabloids which founded after the "You Xi Daily" tended to vulgar, his achievements in the tabloid is not favored by the researchers.But,in the background of complex political, social environment, it is undeniable that these press which were edited by Li Boyuan are characteristic, and occupied a space in the newspaper market at that time,especially in the management of the press.Although there were not all smooth going, Li Boyuan showed his good qualities on the management of the press.
