Initially, the imitation objects for TV variety shows in mainland China are mainly targeted at the developed countries in Europe and America where the TV program production level is high. Since the successful achievement made by Super Girl, a TV show that imitates the American Idol, all large satellite TV channels in China had started to take a shortcut by imitating TV variety shows in Europe and America. However, since 2013, with the prevalence of Dad, Where Are We Going, a hit TV show produced by Hunan Satellite TV channel, all TV channels also began to turn away from the imitation of TV programs in Europe and America, but to focus on the introduction of the pattern of Korean variety show.During such process, variety show in mainland China had also completed its transformation from purely imitating and copying the pattern of other variety show to the legal introduction of its copyrights and then carrying out the sinicized processing and transforming of its pattern, thus to create a variety show that suits the demand of audiences in China. The popularization of the pattern of Korean variety show has its profound social motivations as it has also reflected the change of the demand for mass culture. More specifically, we should think that the introduction of the pattern of Korean variety show has started the course for Chinese TV program producers to learn excellent Korean variety shows. Purchasing copyrights has not only reflected the respect shown to original producers of Korean TV programs by China’s TV industry, but also provides a chance for TV program producers in both countries to exchange and learn from each other. During such process, Chinese TV program producers should study in-depth the production advantages shown in the pattern of Korean variety show, analyze its core elements and follow the State conditions and the demand of the audiences to carry out the sincicized processing and transforming of the pattern of Korean variety show, thereby creating a variety show that is beyond the expectation of Chinese audiences. This is a process of integrating, absorbing, creating and learning for them and also an inevitable course for China’s variety and entertainment show to become original.Among so many variety shows in China that follow Korean pattern, one that attracts a lot of public attention due to its relatively high viewing rate is the outdoor sports Truman show, Running Man, released by Zhejiang Satellite TV channel after the purchasing of its copyrights from Korean Running Man. This paper takes “Running Man” as its main object of study to discuss in three chapters the localization strategy, fundamental defects and reasons to carry out the transformation, which are found in sinicizing the pattern of Korean variety show: The introduction part has introduced general information on the two variety shows – Korean Running Man and Chinese Running Man, in order to explain the characteristics of the objects of study. In the first chapter, it has analyzed specific contents of the two variety shows in Korean and Chinese version respectively and revealed the Chinese Running Man’s carrying forward the advantages of the original Korean variety show; In the second chapter, it has analyzed the localization strategy being applied to Korean pattern, in particular, it mainly focuses on how for Running Man to free itself from the restriction of original Korean pattern while utilizing it and thus to conduct sinicization oriented transformation on it, from perspectives including the integration of Chinese elements and the improvement of its way of broadcasting. In the third part, it has analyzed the problems found with Running Man, and revealed the shortcomings or defects in terms of its communication process. This paper attempts to provide those Chinese variety shows in Korean pattern with more experiences on localization oriented transformation while they are imitating the pattern of Korean variety show and find a way of innovation that suits the development of our TV media industry by studying the experience of the successful sinicization of “Running Man”.
