The topic is from a technology renovation project of main blower unit PLC control system for catalytic refining device in some refinery. The safety problems existing in the original S5 control system must to be solved. Through the research on the process equipment and automatic control system, a feasible way is found, namely, the S5 system is upgraded to the powerful S7 system. The main blower PLC control system is improved through the implementation of the upgrading, so as to improve the automation level of the whole unit. It solves the existing problem of shut down caused by unknown fault in the production. Since the system reform, the main blower had not shut down for the failure in control system.The thesis firstly introduces the influence and status of PLC in the industrial control. Secondly, it illustrates the status and existing problem of a large main blower unit PLC control system Siemens PLC S5 control system in a factory, and then expounds the application of all the control functions of the current main blower unit based on PLC control system. The paper introduces the scheme and measures to upgrading the old Siemens S5 system to S7 system in details. In the end, it summarizes the description of the upgraded system.
