The reality show has risen in Europe and quickly become popular around the world since the 1990s. It was introduced into our country and made a hit in the late 1990s, and then reality show in China suffered from development bottleneck due to serious homogenization and insufficient innovation, which resulted in aesthetic fatigue. Hunan TV launches a parent-child reality show until 2013, Where Are We Going, Dad? and gets unanimous acclaim, which makes the domestic reality show come to life again. Since some outdoor reality shows got super heated on TV screen such as running man, we Are in Love, The Amazing Race, Let’s Go. The rapid rise of outdoor reality shows on the TV screen established its dominance on the TV screen. Through detailed introduction to the development process of domestic outdoor reality show, the paper makes a summary of the characteristics of current domestic outdoor reality show and interprets the phenomenon of the popularity of it from the perspective of mass culture, revealing that the popularity is not simply a kind of cultural phenomenon, but has become a well-deserved cultural landscape in current mass culture. The formation of the landscape is the result of both intensive and careful cultivation of television in China in variety show and the impact Korean wave has on us once again, but also is the inevitable stage in the process of the side of domestic entertainment culture the side of the mirror. Finally, the paper warns we should realize clearly that the prosperity the hit of the current outdoor reality show presents is not really a boom, but a mendacious and flatulent prosperity that after massive copyright introduction what it shows. It not only reflects sub-health state of the current development of China’s television variety show, but also exposes people’ blundering state of mind as well as lack of diversified values in the current transition period in our country.
