Over 63 overseas reality shows were introduced into China in 2014. Although that was a strong momentum, it can be seen from the yielded effect that only a small part of these shows were successfully introduced. The remaining of them received average feedback, and some of them were even a flash on the screen. Thus, the overall development of reality shows introduced into China stepped into an abyssal zone. Hence, how to comprehend the questions and misunderstandings in the introduction and localization of reality shows, and explore the inherent characteristics of program patterns have become important topics in the existing research in this field. It is not difficult to comprehend that as a cultural product in the media industry, reality show is not merely a quick meal that entertains the public. It also involves diversified and complicated cultural factors that are hidden behind. In consideration of this, these questions are mainly discussed from the perspective of "culture":what cultural factors are involved in those introduced reality shows? What factors can fit into and coordinate with the overall cultural environment in China? It is believed in the research that program pattern is a centralized presentation of the cultural connotation of the introduced reality shows. At present, reality shows introduced from the Western countries include the cultural inertia in Western culture--the emphasis on individuals, rationality and rules, which determines the essential characteristics of the program pattern. However, the form of Western culture that’s behind the program pattern fails to integrate with Chinese culture and ecology perfectly. Cultural dumping in the form of media imperialism and the exclusiveness of local culture generate inevitable conflicts between them. In the review of local culture’s selective tendency in the introduction of reality shows, it can be seen that the relatively stable traditional culture, the continuously transforming culture of the time and the various layers of audiences have exerted huge influence on this. Hence, in the practical transformation of the localization of the introduced programs, we should emphasize the cultural differences of the original program pattern, and satisfy the local audiences’cultural psychology by changing the rules, themes and scenes, and increasing or decreasing specific elements in the programs.Furthermore, in the introduction of the pattern of reality show as a cultural product, the cultural connotation and contextual requirements of local culture should be firmly grasped to raise the success rate of introduction. More importantly, media imperialism under the cover of the simple "plagiarism" should be looked out. On the basis of introduction, the local reality show in China also needs to absorb others’ strengths, reinforce its own originality and protect the sound development of national culture.
