Research On Chengdu (Incl. District, County) Comprehensive Archives Services

Archives are original records created in social activities and preserved for reference. As information resource for reference and history identification, archives play an irreplaceable role in social life. National Comprehensive Archives at all levels, main part of national archives, serve as cultural institutions of the state, and bases for permanent custody of the files. The main function is to collect, keep and compile the files, and provide public services. To meet the needs of social development, the service idea, service security system, service means etc. need to advance with the times. As Chengdu is the capital of Sichuan province and important center of Southwest China, practical significance has been attached to the research on current services of the Chengdu(incl. District, County) Comprehensive Archives, and further study to improve archives services, and thus build harmonious society & service-oriented government.This paper is based on literature research, questionnaire, interview and observation study. We select the staff and users of Chengdu(incl. District, County) Comprehensive Archives to fill out questionnaires and request for interview about archives services, to analyze existing problems, the users’ demand and development trend.The main problems are as follows. The archives resources are unreasonable; files openness, compilation, digitalization & information integration need improvement, and public awareness of archives needs to be enhanced. The main reasons are social, political & economic factors, laws & regulations on archives information integration, information technology outsourcing, files collection & resource structure, and comprehensive staff quality etc. In addition, service quality can be influenced by users’ career background & archives using experience.Suggestions are as follows. We should improve the comprehensive quality of archivists through skill training; optimize the structure of files collection and further files compilation & research; raise public awareness of archives through interactive services; improve the laws and regulations on archives information integration, and make steady progress in files digitalization & information integration.
