With the rapid development of network technology in recent years, data services are evolving in the direction of big granularity, high reliability and flexibility. Faced with the explosive growth of data services demand along with high flexibility of scheduling, traditional SDH and WDM exposed their limitations increasingly. OTN, next-generation optical transport network technology, with its scores of technical advantages, has gradually become the mainstream technology of backbone transmission network. In the meantime, from 10Gb/s OTN system to 40Gb/s OTN system, and then to the current maximum transmission capacity 100Gb/ s OTN system, OTN technology is evolving in the direction of higher rate of the transmission system.This paper describes that the application status of 100Gb/s OTN technology in the backbone transmission network through the way of combining theory with practice.The main research content includes the following aspects:1. Researches on architecture and key technologies of OTN networking, and describes the design requirements and key performance indicators of backbone transmission network. Comparison to traditional SDH and WDM, depth analysis of the advantages of OTN Systems(especially 100 Gb / s OTN system) in the backbone transmission network.2. Elaboration of the formulation process of the construction scheme of 100Gb/s OTN system combining with engineering project, the formulation process of the construction scheme of 100Gb/s OTN system is expounded. Contents project includes optical selection, station setup, transmission system configuration and other significant links, with a view to directly reflecting the application status of OTN technology in practice and specific network construction made.3. Optical Signal Noise Ratio(OSNR) is an important indicator of 100Gb/s OTN system, but the current calculation formula of OSNR in design institute needs to be improved. This paper first gives a simple and accurate calculation approach, presents the specific optimization, and finally creates the simulation software. The simulation software is verified to have a good effect based on a comprehensive test results. Network engineer can complete the network planning more easily by using this software.
