In recent years, with the development of computer and network technology, the construction of digital campus in universities achieved remarkable success. Digital information management and service systems build digital space based on traditional campus, improve the management level and efficiency, expand the service functions, and ultimately achieve full informationization of education process. Due to the huge number of college admissions each year, cumbersome orientation process and orientation tense time, the orientation in universities faces great challenge. Many human labor and material resources have been invested into the traditional college orientation, while the management being difficult and inefficient, wasting valuable time of university staff and new students. Considering the above situation, based on the digital campus, this paper addresses the predicament of college orientation by means of informationization. This paper utilizes orientation service system to optimize the orientation procedure, harmonize the work of various functional departments, and provide a smooth and efficient one-step orientation service.This paper firstly investigates the procedures of the orientation work in universities and uses the Unified Modeling Language (UML) to model requirement in course of analysis. The orientation work consists of four parts:the orientation data preparation, orientation online service, orientation field work and follow-up data management. Secondly, the work process is introduced in detail and designed for each part of the system. Finally, following the Rational Unified Process (RUP) software development guidelines, the online orientation service system is designed and implemented on the use of B/S architecture. The system uses Java Web as the core development technology and Oracle database to store large amounts of data information. The development process is user case driven, and each user case is designed into a system service. The system function is meticulously implemented by iterative development.The orientation service system can make full use of system resource and interface of the universities and realize seamless integration of new student information and related system information in the school. Practice has proved that the digital orientation service system can simplify the on-site student registration process and increase the work efficiency of the department staffs participated in the orientation. The orientation service system provides a new service mode and fast, modern way of enrollment and greatly promotes the overall construction of the digital campus.
