The access network is the lowest layer of the whole communication network, and the development of the access network technology is related to the performance of the whole communication network. Over the past few years, the development of the core network and the bearer network are increasingly towards high bandwidth, high speed and the corresponding technology are becoming more and more mature. Comparatively speaking, the access network has become the bottleneck of the network bandwidth. In order to realize the high speed access to the user, it is necessary to research and develop the technology to meet the high bandwidth, high speed, wide coverage and high efficiency.Optical access technology has higher application value, compared with traditional copper access technology. And passive optical network (PON) is the most promising technology in optical access technology. PON system has the characteristics of high speed, high efficiency, and wide coverage and so on. GPON technology, as the most complete and standard content of PON series technology, has been widely used in many operators all over the world.This thesis starts with the development of GPON technology, and studies how to realize the access of integrated services with high speed in the current network. Research on the structure of GPON technology, protocol standard and its frame structure, so as to launch its possible implementation scheme in the current network. Research and design several typical applications of GPON technology in the current network, and give the implementation cases of cuurent network.For several solutions based on GPON access technology, study the feasibility and performance of the solution. Test the typical solution of GPON technology under simulated scenarios. Set the typical network enviroment of voice, broadband, IPTV service, tested all related features and poformance of each solution. Describe the details of testing process and test conclusions. In addition, the GPON terminals are verified and tested. The capability of GPON terminal for GPON solution is tested and the conclusion is given. The troubleshooting process of the typical application in the current network is also proposed. The design, verification and testing have been carried out in-depth research on the GPON technology, which shows that it meets the demand of broadband access in the present and the future.It is the most ideal technology for broadband multi service access.
