With the rapid development of the information technology and the construction of the archive, online information service have been the inevitable trend, it not only improve the utilization of the information resource from the archives, but also experience more convenient and personalized information service for the user. In recent years, the archives pay more attention to the online information service; we put more finance and human resources in archives. Although we have made some achievement, but still be less than perfect in some ways. The defects restrict the development of the archive. At the same time, some developed countries started online information service earlier, and they have rich experience. By comparing with the national archive and some foreign national archives, we can find some helpful experience and the advance direction, in order to promote the development of our national archive online information.At first, the study introduces the background of online information service in the archive, and states the necessity of the research. It elaborates the content and connotation of the online information service, and exposit fundamental principle and its rationale and implementation procedure. By laying a theoretical foundation, the study researches and contrast the online information service in America, England, Australia, Canada and China. Through analyze and compare with the aspects of site navigation, service information, document on-line retrieval system, Web2.0 application, online education, it finds out deficiencies on service consciousness, service interface, online resource, search tools, archive retrieval service, Web2.0 application and online education. At last, the paper puts forward the suggestion and solution.The article is designed to cause concern of Archives department and academician attention for the online information service in our archives, so as to promote the development of archive service. In particular, it can provide some references for the future research.
