Since double-ridged horn antennas own many seductive characteristics, s uch as ultr awideband, relativel y sma ll size, high gain and ape rture efficiency, t hey have been widely applied in el ectromagnetic c ompatibility testing a nd feeding refle ctor a ntenna. This article outlines t he development of ultra-wideband double-r idged horn antenna, and it is focused on the research on the design of ultra-wideba nd double-ridged horn by the way of si mulation.Firstly, mode matching method is used to analyze and cal culate the domain mode operating bandwidth of doubl e-ridged waveguide. Genera l design of double-ridged horn is intr oduced in detail. We simplify the des ign into three parts: the conve rter from coaxial to ridged wavegui de,the transition from ridged waveguide to horn, horn. A 1~10GHz double-ridged horn is specific ally designed, a nd the s imulation results and analysis are given.Secondly, i n order to solve the distortion of r adiation pattern at high frequencies, i t i s tried by attachi ng dielectric lens at the aperture of t he ultra-wideband double-r idged horn. The hyperbolic lens and meniscus lens are de signed respectively. Simulation results show that the gain of double-ridged horn loaded dielectric lens increases, and its pattern bandwi dth raised to 1~ 12 GHz.Finally, a detailed description of the ba sic principles and me thods of using HFSS-MATLAB-API tool are given. A UWB double-ridged hor n antenna is optimized combined with HFSS-MATLAB-API a nd genet ic algorithms. The doubl e-ridged horn adopt ed a new ri dge profile, a nd a new fitness function is designed. The optimi zation results show that t he double-ridged horn meets the ultra-wideband characteristics, beside s i t has an almost consistent E-plane beamwidth.
