The aim of this thesis is to design a 1-18GHz ultra broadband antenna with VSWR ≤ 2.5 and the gain G ≥ 8dB over the whole frequency range for the array radio frequency simulation system to fulfill the requirement of the item of the key lab of NWPU pilotless aircraft special technology. Since the double-ridged horn antenna owns many seductive characteristics, such as ultra broadband, relatively small size, high calibre efficient and gain etc., the decision is made to use the double-ridged horn antenna as the designed ultra broadband antenna.The main contributions of this thesis include the following:(1) A 8-12GHz standard pyramidal horn antenna is designed and its electrical performance parameters such as the reflectance, voltage standing wave ratio( VSWR ), gain and radiation patterns, etc., are simulated and analyzed by using the known commercially available high frequency structure simulation software (HFSS).(2) A 1-18GHz ultra broadband double-ridged horn antenna is studied, designed and simulated. We first present the geometrical structure of the ultra broadband double-ridged horn antenna from the theoretical and numerical analysis of the antenna. Then, to fulfill the desired design goals of this thesis, we designed an ultra broadband double-ridged horn antenna that covers the frequency range from 1-18GHz. To analyze this antenna, by using the simulation software HFSS, the antenna geometry is modeled and the antenna parameters, such as VSWR, the antenna gain and the radiation pattern, etc., are simulated. Finally, to meet the specific antenna electrical characteristics requirement of the task, the structure of coaxial input feed section and the shape of the ridge of the above antenna are optimized. As a result, the optimal antenna geometry and size are attained and the 1-18GHz ultra broadband double-ridged horn antenna, which satisfies the requirement of the task completely, is designed.
