Ultra-wideband technology has been widely studied and applied in recent years.As the forefront of ultra-wideband technology, ultra-wideband antenna is animportant component. Ultra-wideband antenna has been widely used inelectromagnetic measurement systems, electromagnetic compatibility test systems,ultra-wideband radar and other fields. For its large bandwidth, good directivity, easydesign and processing, high gain, etc., horn antenna has been the practicalapplication of ultra-wideband antennas for many occasions. Compared to hornantenna, TEM ridged horn antenna is easier to achieve high bandwidth andminiaturization purpose, so the research of ultra-wideband horn antenna is verymeaningful.This subject is based on ultra-wideband life detection radar project.Research onTEM ridged horn antenna is carried on. According to the requirements ofultra-wideband antenna, time-domain characteristics is discussed, in addition to thegeneral characteristics of the antenna in the frequency domain. Ultra-wideband TEMridged horn antenna has great bandwidth ratio, good structural stability, high gainand high fidelity time domain characteristics and other characteristics, so it’sapplicable to the requirements of the project, and it’s facilitate to form an antennaarray to meet subsequent request for the project.Firstly, the two basic structures of TEM ridged horn antenna-ridgedwaveguide and TEM horn antenna are analyzed theoretically, their characteristicimpedance, cutoff frequency, radiation and other parameters are given, and thetransmission mode in TEM ridged horn antennas is preliminary analysised, whichhas guiding role in understanding its characteristics in radiation.Secondly, according to the theoretical analysis,and a1-21GHz TEM ridgedhorn antenna is designed and simulated, then for its shortcomings, measures toimprove its characteristics are proposed, and accordingly the previous model of theantenna is modified, the optimized design model with0.4-26GHz band is proposed.With the same size, the minimum frequency decreases by half, and it can still meetthe requirements of directionality, while maintaining good time domaincharacteristics.Then the actual antenna is processed, and it’s parameters aremeasured. The measurement results and the simulation results are compared andanalyzed.Finally, according to the previous theoretical analysis, ultra-wideband dualpolarized TEM four-ridged horn antenna is researched and designed, its waveguidecavity structure is analyzed and redesigned, simulation results show that it hasimproved high frequency antenna effective reflection characteristics with good antenna pattern.
